Official Rules for Football Picks
These are the rules for participating in the football picks. If there is anything that is not clear, please send me an email and I will try to clarify it. It should be stressed that this is for entertainment. While I would hope that these rules would cover every contigency, there may be times when a modification or interpretation is necessary.
- All picks are made against the spread. That means that just picking who will win is not sufficient. You need to decide whether that team can "beat" the spread.
- All spreads will end in a 0.5 so that there is no chance to tie with the spread. It is either a win or a loss. The program automatically adjusts all of the spreads so that they end in 0.5.
- Spreads will be established towards the first part of the week. Spreads that are not set at this time will be determined by me. Once the spreads/games have been published for the week they will not change. Therefore, unlike the Vegas Line, the spread will never move based on injuries, updates, etc. Play the spread that is set regardless of any obvious errors. Everyone will be playing against the same spread.
- The line is automatically scanned and obtained from the FootballLOCKS.com.
- Weekly ties are determined by the total score of the last game played for the week. This is the combined final score of both teams in this contest. The person that selects the closest overall score (either below or above) to the actual score wins. In case there is more than one person that has the closest score, the weekly winnings will be divided equally among those who have tied.
- The default selections are used so that if a player fails to get picks in by the deadline, he will still get a score based upon the default selections. While it is possible to win a week with the default picks, there is no weekly tie-breaker. Therefore in order to win with default picks, you MUST win by having the most correct picks.
- Default selections will only be available to use for two times during the season. After using two default selections, you will get a 0 for the week if you fail to enter picks.
- The lowest weekly score will be dropped from the overall score. However, this will be used as a tie-breaker if necessary. Overall scores are represented as a floating point number, where the whole number represents the total score (less the lowest score) and the decimal portion represents the lowest score (tie-breaker). Therefore, the largest floating point number wins the overall. For example, a 90.2 beats an 89.4.
